Overview
The Digital Humanities program prepares for management-level positions that require a technical and critical understanding of digital data and documents, the tools that produce them, their representations, analyses and uses. This program has elaborated on the problems and methods of the Humanities and Social Sciences, statistics and informatics, to elaborate, analyze, as well as interpret numerical corpora socially and technically.
The Digital Humanities course is only accessible through a double degree. Students must be enrolled in a master's degree of a disciplinary type. The program provides, through secondary registration, a complementary and valuable specialization allowing students to obtain two master’s degrees. However, students who have already validated a disciplinary master's degree and who want to acquire additional knowledge and skills related to digital technology will be accepted as their main entry into the Digital Humanities Master's degree.
Part of the 1st and 2nd year courses is therefore pooled with the specialization of the disciplinary master’s degrees. In addition to a specialty elective in English, English language training is integrated into the Digital Humanities Master’s with some courses or seminars in English, including a synthesis of scientific articles in English amongst others.
The Digital Humanities Master’s, organized in 4 semesters, includes theoretical, methodological, reflective and applied courses as well as a mandatory internship. It also includes an introduction to research including the realization of a cross-curricular project and the writing of a research paper. The internship and the 2nd year research paper are to be carried out in conjunction with the specialization of the disciplinary master's degree. Given the very essence of the Digital Humanities, a privileged place is given to digital in education (training by and for digital, collaborative digital tools, digital work environments, distance learning, etc.).
- In the 1st year of the master's degree, 32 ECTS are devoted to teaching in digital humanities; and 28 ECTS are to be validated in the disciplinary master's degree.
- In the 2nd year of the master's degree, 50 ECTS are devoted to teaching in digital humanities, internship and dissertation included and 10 ECTS are to be validated in the disciplinary master's degree.
The Digital Humanities course is co-accredited with the Université de Lyon, Université de Lyon 3 and ENSSIB. From a practical point of view, the courses and exams take place only on Mondays, whether in Master’s 1 degree or Master’s 2.
It is a double degree with any master's degree of ENS de Lyon, subject to compatibility of the schedule and the relevance of the student's professional project.
