Overview

The Biosciences and Modeling of Complex Systems course of the Master’s of Biology aims at offering a generalist and high-level training in biology. It enables student biologists to learn about modeling by encouraging them to choose common courses with mathematicians, computer scientists and physicists.

Multidisciplinary approaches are a crucial point of this training, as students choose optional Electives (UEs) in very diverse fields such as evolutionary sciences, immunology and microbiology, development or ecology. Students also participate in a practical elective of their choice (1- Confocal microscopy and quantification in 2-4 dimensions, 2- electron microscopy, 3-bio-modeling or 4- data analysis from massive sequencing) which allows them to be trained in the technologies currently used in research.  Although generalist,  the Biosciences and Modeling of Complex Systems program leads to a certain specialization through the choice of optional elective (UE), and the laboratory internship (20 weeks in S2).

The training gives students an international outlook: all biology lectures are given in English and the research internship most often takes place in a foreign country.

Structure

Theoretical and practical optional electives enable students to choose courses from those offered by the Biosciences-Health pathway.

Compulsory electives give students general professional skills: classic English course at S3, and courses combined with learning science communication during Semester 4.

The Semester 4 includes a 20-week internship in a research laboratory.

50% of this program is in French, 50% in English.
