Mobile phones, digital cameras and PCs have become everyday commodities within an incredibly short time span. Informatics has played a key role in major developments in fields such as medicine, automotive engineering, and aerospace.

Informatics is a modern discipline and the engine of innovation for technical progress in all fields of economic and social life. Specialists in informatics shape the future! Their occupational fields are continually expanding and subject to constant change.

Which further expertise and skills will I acquire?

The Department of Informatics is one of the largest and most highly renowned in the field in Germany. As a graduate, you possess a top-class vocational education and training that, to a great extent, you will have tailored to your own interests.

You will have expanded your knowledge of the discipline and, upon successfully completing the degree, be able to conduct independent scientific work. Thus you fulfill the requirements for further developing the discipline and are well prepared for a challenging professional occupation or a doctoral degree.

In addition to a solid education in the core areas of informatics, the master’s program offers you the opportunity to specialize in at least one of eight areas:

  • software engineering
  • databases and information systems
  • artificial intelligence and robotics
  • computer graphics and vision
  • computer architecture
  • distributed systems, computer networks, and security
  • formal methods and their applications
  • algorithms and scientific computation

The freedom to shape your own individual competency profile enables you to enter a field of study early on that is suited both to research and to practical innovation.

Which professional opportunities can I take up with this qualification?

Opportunities arise for graduates of the master's program in Informatics in challenging fields all over the world – from trade, research, industry, services, and insurance to consultancy or public administration.

Qualifications

Selection takes place through an aptitude assessment procedure. The aptitude assessment is a two-part procedure after the submission of an official application to a program. In this procedure, the TUM school determines whether you meet the specific requirements for its Master’s degree program.

In the initial stages, the grades you obtained during your bachelor's program, as well as your written documents, will be evaluated using a point system. Depending on the amount of points accumulated, applicants are either immediately admitted, rejected, or invited to an admissions interview.
