About this course
Our Graduate Certificate in Advanced Clinical Skills (Surgical Anatomy) provides sound knowledge and understanding of human anatomy that underpins successful surgical practice through a series of whole-body cadaveric dissections taught by subspecialist surgeons.
Who is it for?
This course provides a pathway for registrars or registered medical officers to prepare for the human anatomy knowledge requirement of the Part 1 Surgical Primary examination delivered by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Structure
What you’ll study
This course requires students to complete 24 credit points of the following units of study (6 credit points per unit of study).
- Head and Neck by Dissection
- Thorax and Root of the Neck by Dissection
- Limbs and Back by Dissection
- Abdomen, Pelvis and Perineum by Dissection
Students who successfully complete these units of study may credit these to the Master of Surgery.

Admissions
Admission to the course requires:
- a medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; and
- a traineeship with the relevant surgical training program of RACS or equivalent; or
- employment as resident medical officer in an Australian hospital, satisfactory interview, satisfactory references, and approval by Head of Discipline or their nominee; or
- a Fellowship of the RACS.
For admission you will need to attend an interview with the Head of the Discipline of Surgery, or their nominee, whose approval you will need for admission to the course.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
