About this course
This program provides a foundation in the design, measurement and theory of audio and acoustics, as well as an understanding of the way sound shapes our experience of communication, entertainment, and spatial awareness.
Who is it for?
The program is ideal for audio engineers, architects, interior designers, sustainability designers, music-industry professionals and graduates of the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments who wish to build their expertise in audio and acoustics.
Structure
What you’ll study
Throughout the program, you will combine aesthetic sound design, new media, sound recording and system design with acoustic engineering, computer modelling and psychology. You will build on a foundational understanding of the broader aspects of design science (including illumination, building services, sustainable design and indoor environment quality), with access to the School’s world-class facilities.
The Graduate Diploma will provide you with a foundation for the more intensive theoretical and practical work undertaken in the Master of Architectural Science.

Admissions
Admission to this course requires:
- a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification; or
- completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate certificate with an average mark of at least 70 across all units attempted for the award.
Graduate Diploma students may apply to upgrade to the Masters at the completion of their program (by maintaining a credit average over the course of study).
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
