About this course
This innovative course explores how rapidly-evolving sustainable lighting technologies are changing industry practise and are contributing to new opportunities for creative applications of modern materials, colours and technologies.
Who is it for?
This professional program is open to students from diverse backgrounds including architecture, engineering, computer science, interior design and psychology. It is ideal for graduates of the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments.
Structure
What you’ll study
As a student of Illumination Design, you will explore the growing field of lighting for architectural and urban environments and learn how sustainable lighting technologies are changing illumination design practice.
This course will develop your understanding of the relationship between lighting and allied-build environment disciplines, as well as the interaction of optics, psychology and physiology.

Admissions
Admission to this course requires:
- a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; or
- completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate certificate with an average mark of at least 70 across all units attempted for the award.
Graduate Diploma students may apply to upgrade to the Masters at the completion of their program (with a weighted average mark of at least 70).
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
