About this course
Our Graduate Diploma in Biostatistics trains you to become a qualified professional biostatistician.
Biostatistics is the application of statistical techniques to scientific research in health-related fields, including medicine and public health.

Our program is suitable for someone who has a degree from a relevant discipline and an aptitude for advanced mathematics.
Structure
What you’ll study
The Graduate Diploma in Biostatistics consists of 48 credit points worth of study.
Core units for the graduate diploma include: Epidemiology, Mathematical Foundations for:
- Biostatistics,
- Data Management and Statistical Computing,
- Principles of Statistical Inference,
- Regression Modelling for Biostatistics 1, and
- Regression Modelling for Biostatistics 2.
Some students may be eligible for waivers of foundational units if they have equivalent prior study, leaving room for additional elective units of study.
The biostatistics coursework units of study delivered as part of the BCA are fully online. Core units are offered in both semesters. Some general elective units may not be available for online study.

Admissions
A successful applicant for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Biostatistics will hold:
- a bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, science, psychology, medicine, pharmacy, economics, health sciences or other appropriate discipline from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification, or;
- completion of the requirements of the embedded Graduate Certificate in Biostatistics.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
