About this course
This course is a unique and innovative climate and environmental law program at the forefront of contemporary issues and developments. Understand one of the most rapidly expanding areas of specialisation in the law through the abundance and variety of our units available.
Who is it for?
Postgraduate study in environmental law is suitable for barristers, judges, magistrates and solicitors,and non-legal professionals in climate justice, international environmental law, energy and resources law, environmental litigation and related fields.
Structure
What you’ll study
You will acquire a strong legal education and be well prepared for practice in the profession should you choose that career path.
You will develop:
- critical thinking skills,
- the capacity for deep, evidence-based analysis and problem solving, and
- a thorough grounding in professional ethics.
You will complete 24 credit points, equivalent to four units of study. There is one compulsory unit of study, Environmental Law & Policy and students without a law degree must also complete the unit, Legal Reasoning & the Common Law System. You are then able to choose from a wide range of relevant electives on offer.

Admission to candidature for this course requires:
- a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney; or an equivalent qualification
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
