Overview

About this course

This exciting field of study is much more than the simple preservation of existing buildings. Instead, by engaging with history, your role is to provide value to building owners, visitors and cultural bodies, all of which have a shared interest in understanding, adapting and preserving our heritage.

Who is it for?

Graduates from architectural, urban planning, archaeological, historical, engineering or related backgrounds, or the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments, can develop their specialist conservation and adaptive reuse skills through this course. We also welcome applicants from other disciplines.

Structure

What you’ll study

The program aims to develop core competencies in the following areas:

  • The documentation and assessment of culturally significant places, including buildings, sites and cultural landscapes.
  • The formulation of policy for culturally significant places and their effective management.
  • Understanding of the legal frameworks, policy positions and professional methods that govern heritage conservation practice.

You will be encouraged to think critically about:

  • How cultural value is determined.
  • Who should help to determine cultural value.
