About this course
This course prepares you for professional work and academic research in public international law and international policy, giving you skills and knowledge to negotiate the legal and policy issues affecting relations between states; states and international organisations; and states and individuals.
Who is it for?
This course is suitable for barristers, judges, magistrates and solicitors,and non-legal professionals in diplomacy, foreign affairs, global business development, global policy, intergovernmental affairs, international affairs, international relations and political affairs.
Structure
What you’ll study
You will acquire a strong legal education and be well prepared for practice in the profession should you choose that career path.
You will develop:
- critical thinking skills,
- the capacity for deep,
- evidence-based analysis and problem solving, and
- a thorough grounding in professional ethics.
You will complete 24 credit points, which is equivalent to 4 units of study. There is one compulsory unit of study, International Law I. The remaining units of study are selected from a wide range of relevant electives.

Admission to candidature for this course requires:
- a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney; or an equivalent qualification.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
