About this course
Explore complex, interconnected issues such as causes and consequences of war; ethnic, religious and ideological conflict; and threats from climate change, disease and nuclear proliferation. We will draw on economics, political science, law, business, public health and more.
Who is it for?
A postgraduate qualification aimed at those looking to elevate their understanding of international security in the international and local context and ground their existing profession with a renewed approach through practical exercises and skills-building.
Structure
What you’ll study
Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in International Security are required to complete 48 credit points including:
- a minimum of 24 credit points of core units of study
- a minimum of 12 credit points of core elective units of study
- a maximum of 12 credit points from elective units of study

Admissions
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in International Security requires:
- a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney with a minimum 60% average calculated over the whole degree with a major in the social sciences, or an equivalent qualification; or
- completion of the Graduate Certificate in International Security with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
