Structure
What you’ll study
Our Graduate Diploma of Medical Imaging Science is an advanced practice postgraduate coursework degree for medical imaging professionals. The course develops leadership knowledge and skills to implement new and optimised imaging techniques to improve patient and healthcare outcomes.
You will complete core units that cover the state of the art in medical imaging technology and image data handling and analysis. Electives are based on your chosen specialisation and areas of particular interest.

Admissions
Admission to this course requires:
- A bachelor's degree or higher award in medical radiation sciences from the University of Sydney, or a qualification deemed by the faculty to be equivalent, OR
- A Graduate Certificate in Medical Imaging Science or equivalent qualifications deemed acceptable by the Faculty
And
- Current unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or equivalent international registration.
- Evidence of other minimum standards specifiied by the Faculty of Medicine and Health
For domestic applicants, the Indigenous Facilitated Entry Scheme and the Rural Applicants Facilitated Entry Scheme are available for eligible applicants. Please refer to the SHS Medical Imaging Science Special Admission Pathways Guide for definitions and information on facilitated entry schemes.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
