What you’ll study
The Graduate Diploma in Political Economy provides specialised knowledge of key trends underlying the global economy and its transformation. The Discipline of Political Economy is a leading centre for economic analysis and research.
You can undertake elective units from other disciplines, combining political economy with economics, public policy or international relations.
You will complete 48 credit points including:
- a minimum of 12 credit points from core units of study
- a minimum of 12 credit points from core elective units of study
- a maximum of 18 credit points from elective units of study

Admissions
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in Political Economy requires:
- a bachelor's degree with a minimum 60% average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, including a major in the Social Sciences, or an equivalent qualification; or
- completion of the Graduate Certificate in Political Economy with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
