Gain a critical and multidisciplinary perspective on the global, national and local levels of a rapidly changing policy environment, with growing public scrutiny, shrinking resources, and new trans-boundary challenges.
Who is it for?
The degree is designed for those working or looking to work in government and the public sector, and for those working in non-government or private sector bodies who seek a better understanding of the role of government in public policy making.
Structure
What you’ll study
Explore the opportunities and constraints stemming from political, social, economic, civil and technological factors at both the national and global levels. During this course, you will study migration, corruption, crisis management, governance and the environment.
The course also brings together theoretical insights from public policy, with examples from the political world. Based within the University's Department of Government and International Relations, you will study electives such as international relations, comparative politics and Australian politics, gaining a deeper understanding of policy design and implementation.
You will complete 48 credit points including:
- 12 credit points of core units of study
- 24 credit points from core elective units of study
- 12 credit points from elective units of study.

Admissions
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in Public Policy requires:
- a bachelor's degree with a minimum 60% average calculated over the whole degree with a major in social sciences, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; or
- completion of the Graduate Certificate in Public Policy with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
