About this course
Understand the challenges of sustainable human development on local, national and global scales. This program provides theoretical foundations and opportunities for practice-based understanding of development policy, programs and outcomes.
Who is it for?
The course is aimed at students who wish to take up, or already occupy, career positions in humanitarian and not-for-profit organisations and looking to enhance their professional prospects.
Structure
What you’ll study
Address issues in development policy and debate with experts in anthropology, international relations, political economy, linguistics, public health, human geography, economics and sociology.
You will benefit from workshops, seminars and conferences in a research-driven environment, and from our strong commitment to building industry relationships in a global city.
You can also have the opportunity to intern at local or overseas organisations or complete a research-based supervised dissertation.
You will complete:
- 3 units (18 credit points) of core units of study;
- 3 units (18 credit points) from selective units of study in the Development studies stream; and,
- 2 units (12 credit points) from elective units of study.

Admissions
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in Social Justice (Development Studies) requires:
- a bachelor's degree with a minimum 60 percent average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, with a major in the humanities or social sciences, or an equivalent level of performance in an equivalent qualification; or
- completion of the Graduate Certificate in Social Justice with a minimum credit (65 percent) average, or an equivalent qualification.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
