Overview

About this course

This unique program will allow you to build a deep foundation in the design, measurement and theory of audio and acoustics with an added specialisation in the lighting design field.

Who is it for?

This program is tailored for design and related built-environment professionals who wish to extend their expertise in audio and acoustics, and for graduates of the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments and Bachelor of Design in Architecture.

Structure

What you’ll study

Primary stream: Audio and Acoustics

Throughout the program, you will combine aesthetic sound design, new media, sound recording and system design with acoustic engineering, computer modelling and psychology. You will build on a foundational understanding of the broader aspects of design science (including illumination, building services, sustainable design and indoor environment quality), with access to the School’s world-class facilities.

Secondary stream: Illumination Design

Throughout this course, you will learn how architectural lighting design shapes the visual environment experienced by building occupants. By specifying light sources and control systems, determining their spatial arrangement, and considering the interaction between light and materials, you will discover how to influence the function and aesthetics of architectural spaces.

Opportunities

Your research-leading lecturers take you on site visits and expose you to a range of international collaborators. We leverage our extensive links with industry to bring you internship opportunities with leading businesses and consultancies. You can use a wide range of electives to pursue your interests in the application of sustainable design theories and methods in architecture, planning, urban design, building services and facilities management.
