About this course
Taught in collaboration with leading institutions and art spaces, this degree trains art sector leaders of the future by cultivating a comprehensive knowledge of the cultural, theoretical, social, political and economic forces that shape gallery and museum systems.

You may be a recent graduate, an arts and cultural worker looking to accelerate your career or looking to grow and adapt existing skills for the arts sector.
Structure
What you’ll study
To qualify for the Master of Art Curating, you must complete 72 credit points, comprising:
- 3 core units (18 credit points)
- Working with Art: Objects in Focus
- The Art Museum: Past, Present and Future
- Contemporary Curating
- 2 core electives (12 credit points)
- 6 electives (36 credit points)
- 1 capstone experience (6 credit points)
Recognition of Prior Learning/credit for previous studies is available for this course, refer to the Admission requirement.
Completion requirement
Under normal progression, a full-time student completes prescribed units of study to the value of 24 credit points per semester. Part-time students may undertake prescribed units of study up to the value of 12 credit points per semester. You are required to attend all lectures, tutorials and other activities prescribed for your units of study.
Capstone (Compulsory project)
The Capstone component of the Master of Art Curating will consist of either an internship unit or two units of dissertation culminating in a piece of research scholarship of around 12,000 words.

Entry in the 1 year or 1.5 year degree program is determined by the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) criteria below:
Admission to candidature for the Master of Art Curating (1.5 year full-time) requires:
- a bachelor's degree with a major in Anthropology, Archaeology, Art History, Cultural Geography, Cultural Studies, Education, English, Gender Studies, History, Indigenous Studies or related field, and a minimum credit (65%) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification
Admission to candidature for the Master of Art Curating (1 year full-time) requires:
- completion of the embedded Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Art Curating with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification; or
- an Honours degree in a relevant discipline; or
- relevant professional work experience and a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average or an equivalent qualification
If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
