What you’ll study

The Master of Education (Educational Psychology) is a postgraduate coursework degree that will provide a deep understanding of theory and current research into diverse areas such as:

  • learning
  • motivation
  • child and adolescent development (including brain development)
  • thinking skills
  • individual differences.

You will complete core units along with a capstone experience comprising a semester-long special project or a year-long dissertation. Additionally, you will complete a stream elective and postgraduate education units as needed to meet the requirements of the course.

Qualifications

Admission to this course requires:

  • a Bachelor of Education from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification and either the completion of postgraduate studies, or professional experience equivalent to one year full-time in a field considered by the Faculty to be appropriate to the program of study; or 
  • a bachelor's degree and either the Graduate Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Teaching or Master of Teaching from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification; or
  • a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification, and either the completion of postgraduate studies, or professional experience equivalent to two years full-time, in a field considered by the School to be appropriate to the program of studies.; or
  • completion of the embedded Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Educational Psychology) from the University of Sydney; or equivalent qualification.

If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.
