About this course
Our Master of Exercise Physiology degree gives you the knowledge, competencies and clinical experience required to deliver safe and effective clinical exercise practice that has a real impact on people’s health.
Who is it for?
Our course is designed for students who want to be equipped with the knowledge to assess physical and functional capacity, identify risks and design targeted, functional and sustainable exercise programs, and apply these skills in practical clinical settings.
Structure
What you’ll study
The Master of Exercise Physiology is a postgraduate coursework degree that will provide you with the knowledge, competencies and clinical experience required to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.
You will complete core units, one selective unit, and a capstone project unit in your final semester, which cover the areas of clinical exercise physiology practice including cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological, musculoskeletal, cancers, kidney, respiratory / pulmonary and mental health, and any other conditions for which there is evidence that exercise can improve clinical status. This includes clinical placements across the public and private sectors.

Admissions
Admission to candidature for the Master of Exercise Physiology requires the applicant to have:
- A bachelor or master’s degree or a PhD in exercise science or a health-related discipline from the University of Sydney, or qualifications deemed by the faculty to be equivalent; and
- A minimum average mark of 60 out of 100 or equivalent (GPA of 4.5 out of 7)
- any other minimum standards specified by the Faculty of Medicine and Health.
- Evidence of*:
- a current Exercise Scientist Accreditation (AES) with Exercise and Sport Science Australia; or
- completion of a bachelor or master’s degree accredited by Exercise and Sport Science Australia at the level of Exercise Science; or
- an approved Graduate Entry Assessment from Exercise and Sport Science Australia
*by providing evidence of accreditation, applicants are also proving extensive pre-existing knowledge in human anatomy, human or exercise physiology and research design and statistics.
For domestic applicants, the Indigenous Facilitated Entry Scheme and the Rural Applicants Facilitated Entry Scheme are available for eligible applicants. International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 7.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 23 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 25 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 68 in each band
