About this course
The Master of Health Law (MHL) is a flexible, specialist qualification covering wide-ranging legal and ethical issues in healthcare. You will learn to identify, analyse and develop solutions to complex legal, ethical and policy issues affecting health and health services.
Who is it for?
Our students come from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds. They include practising lawyers, health professionals, health administrators, government officers, health advocates and others seeking a deeper understanding of legal and regulatory issues arising within the health sector.
Structure
What you’ll study
The Master of Health Law is a postgraduate coursework degree focusing on a wide range of legal and ethical issues in healthcare and in the governance of health.
The core and elective units of study cover a wide range of areas, including healthcare law, the impact of new technologies on healthcare, the regulation of the health professions, litigation and dispute resolution, public health law, mental health law, global health law and governance, and a range of more specialist fields.
Students learn to identify, analyse and develop solutions to complex legal, ethical and policy issues affecting health and health services. MHL candidates come from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds.
Students without a law degree from a common law jurisdiction must take a core unit prior to or at the same time as completing other units.

Admissions
Admission to candidature for the Master of Health Law requires:
- a bachelor's degree with a credit average (65 percent) from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification.; or
- a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; and the applicant provides evidence of two years of relevant professional experience.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
