Structure
What you’ll study
The Master of International Security is a postgraduate coursework degree that will build your understanding of traditional and emerging security challenges and apply theories to current events and policy debates.
You will complete core units and selective units in international Security. You will also take elective units that can include completion of an optional specialisation, broadening your studies to include a particular area of interest.
Additionally, you will complete a capstone experience comprising a dissertation and elective units to meet the requirements of the course.

Admissions
Admission to candidature for the Master of International Security (2 year full time) requires:
- A bachelor’s degree with a minimum credit (65 percent) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification
If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
