About this course
Develop specialised technical knowledge in telecommunications and electrical engineering. Gain advanced knowledge in designing and building systems and machines that generate, transmit, measure, control and use electrical energy essential to modern life.
Who is it for?
This course is for people seeking to make the transition from a science or mathematics-based career to become an engineer, or who already have an engineering degree and would like to change paths to a different specialisation.
Structure
What you’ll study
You can choose to specialise in Telecommunications Engineering, Power Engineering, Internet of Things, or Intelligent Information Engineering.
All students in the Electrical Engineering stream will complete:
- 8 x core Electrical Engineering units
- 2 x professional engineering units
- 2 x management electives
- a minimum of 2 x project or research pathway units
If you choose to specialise you will also take:
- 8 x core units in your specialisation
- 2 x elective units from your specialisation
If you choose not to specialise you will take:
- 4 x core Electrical Engineering units
- 4 x Electrical Engineering electives

Admissions
To be eligible for admission, an applicant is required to have:
- an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a 65 percent average, or equivalent qualification or
- an Australian bachelor's degree in a non-Engineering discipline with a 65 percent average, with studies equivalent to 48 credit points (equivalent to 1 year full time study load) in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, computing or statistics, as related to the stream sought for admission.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
