About this course
Our course has been designed by critical care clinicians for students interested in emergency medicine, anaesthetics and intensive care medicine. Students will have a range of subjects to choose from as they develop skills in teaching, simulation and research.
Who is it for?
This course is only available to students currently enrolled in our Master of Science in Medicine (Critical Care Medicine) who meet the criteria for admission.
Structure
What you’ll study
Our Master of Science in Medicine (Advanced) (Critical Care Medicine) offers a broad range of subjects relevant to the practice of critical care, such as retrieval medicine, pain medicine, clinical neurophysiology, ultrasound, simulation and clinical reasoning and communication. Students will gain insights and understanding into the key research that informs this area of practice.
The program is aimed at helping you become a well-rounded, analytical and successful clinician. It will assist you in passing the entry examinations of the relevant colleges, fulfilling their research requirements, and will provide you with research opportunities.
The Advanced Master of Medicine (Critical Care Medicine) is made up of 60 credit points of study including:
- 12 credit points of compulsory units of study;
- 24 credit points of stream specific units of study;
- 12 credit points of stream specific or general elective units of study; and
- 12 credit points of research project units in an area of specific interest relevant to their master's degree.
If you are interested in this option, it is recommended that you complete PUBH5018 Introductory Biostatistics as one of your elective units.
The course can be studied full-time or part-time and is delivered online with intensive face-to-face components.

Admissions
Admission to this course requires:
- completion of the requirements for the Master of Science in Medicine (Critical Care).
- an average mark of at least 75% in 24 credit points of compulsory and/or stream units of study.
- any other requirements as stated by the faculty at the time of application.
International qualifications
For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.5 in each band
A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 20 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 22 in Writing
A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 61 in each band
