About this course

Our Master of Science in Medicine (Clinical Neurophysiology) aims to provide structured educational programs in neurophysiological monitoring to complement experiential learning in the workplace.

Who is it for?

Our course is designed for scientists, trainee scientists and those with appropriate qualifications seeking to work in neurophysiology laboratories and clinics.

Structure

What you’ll study

The master's requires the completion of 48 credit points of units of study including:

  • 12 credit points of compulsory units of study;
  • 24 credit points of stream specific units of study; and
  • 12 credit points of stream specific or general elective units of study.

The course is delivered largely online with all CLNP units of study (except Basic Sciences in Clinical Neurophysiology & Neuromonitoring in Anaesthesia) incorporating compulsory intensive face-to-face teaching sessions in Sydney.

Students who work, or intend to work, predominantly in neurophysiology laboratories, are encouraged to enrol in these units of study:

  • Basic Sciences in Clinical Neurophysiology (compulsory)
  • Diagnostic Electroencephalography
  • Clinical Neurophysiology Techniques
  • Advanced Electroencephalography

Students who intend to predominantly practice intraoperative monitoring are encouraged to enrol in:

  • Basic Sciences in Clinical Neurophysiology (compulsory)
  • Neuromonitoring in Anaesthesia
  • Intraoperative Monitoring I
  • Intraoperative Monitoring II

Please note: If you commence your course in Semester 2 you will not be able to enrol in the compulsory unit CLNP5001 Basic Sciences in Clinical Neurophysiology. This unit is available in Semester 1 only and must be completed prior to or in conjunction with each of the other stream specific units. You will be able to enrol in CEPI5100 Introduction to Clinical Epidemiology and/or general elective unit(s) of study.

Primarily taught online, your studies will be supplemented by intensive face-to-face teaching sessions which include practical experience in simulated diagnostic and perioperative settings.

Qualifications

Admission to the course requires:

  • successful completion of an embedded degree program (graduate certificate or graduate diploma) with a minimum credit average; or
  • a bachelor's degree in a health or science-related discipline from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification; or
  • a bachelor's degree plus a postgraduate degree in a health or science-related discipline from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants must also provide evidence of at least 12 months of relevant work experience.

For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
