About this course

The Master of Urban and Regional Planning is your pathway to the professional world of planning and is accredited by the Planning Institute of Australia. It focuses on developing an understanding of the ways that cities and sites are constructed: physically, socially and environmentally.

Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in human geography, design or similar, seeking a professional education in urban and regional planning. What you’ll study

The Master of Urban and Regional Planning is a postgraduate coursework degree that will develop the communication skills, reasoning and analytical processes required to make valuable contributions to the policy, technical and regulatory aspects of urban and regional planning.

You will complete core units in urban and regional planning, along with a capstone unit comprising a planning report or research dissertation. You will also complete elective units that focus on design and current urban issues as needed to meet the requirements of the course.

Qualifications

Admission to the Master of Urban and Regional Planning requires:

  • a bachelor's degree in design, human geography or related field from the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification with a credit average mark across all units; or
  • completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate diploma with an average mark of at least 70.

International qualifications

For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
