Overview
Explore building construction and performance, project management, and how building materials function. Learn about key issues in the industry—sustainability, construction law, managing facilities, and the relationship between buildings and their environment.
You can study part time while working or full time through block teaching. Block teaching involves delivering courses in concentrated blocks of time, for three days every four weeks. This approach allows you to balance work with study. In the final course, you’ll gain professional work experience in an area of architectural science.
Structure
The 180-point Master of Architectural Science takes three trimesters to complete when studied full time. Trimesters 1 and 2 comprise 60 points of coursework each, followed by an industry practicum or project in Trimester 3.
Subjects
There are two subjects in the Master of Architectural Science: Project Management or Sustainable Engineering Systems.
Choose Project Management and gain the skills required to manage a construction project, including contract management, design integration, and performance monitoring. You’ll graduate up-to-date with the most advanced techniques and tools used to manage projects and built facilities.
Specialise in Sustainable Engineering Systems and you’ll focus on developing energy and resource efficient systems for the built environment. Learn how to evaluate the sustainability of existing buildings and facilities, with assessment systems used in New Zealand and worldwide.
